Best Sauna Dates in Bristol... and a little Beyond...

Dinner and drinks are great, but sometimes the best dates involve doing absolutely nothing. Bristol’s sauna scene has exploded over the last few years, bringing wood-fired saunas, icy plunges, wild swimming and garden spas to loads of beautiful corners of the city.

If you both need some mid week relaxation, or you’re looking for a slower Sunday these sauna spots in Bristol and (just) beyond make brilliant dates.

Fire & Ice Wellness, Westbury-on-Trym

Bristol's best local sauna, ice baths & wild swimming. Hidden inside Westbury Wildlife Park, Fire & Ice feels like it should be further from Bristol than it actually is. There are two wood-fired saunas, ice baths and the pièce de résistance, a natural swimming pool, once the wildlife park’s seal pond.

You can move between the sauna, plunge and wild swim together, which gives the whole thing a playful, slightly adventurous feel.

Standard one-hour sessions are around £17.50 per person. There’s also a Fire & Ice location at Old Down Estate if you fancy taking the date further out into the countryside.

Orchard Sauna, Windmill Hill City Farm

Best for a wholesome weekend date, there is also something so Bristol about going on a sauna date in the middle of a city farm.

Orchard Sauna sits inside Windmill Hill City Farm in Bedminster and combines outdoor saunas with several chilled plunge options.

The setting is what really makes this one work for a date. You can wander around the farm, visit the animals, explore the community gardens and grab a coffee or something to eat at the farm café before or afterwards.

Bristol Sauna Yard, Redfield

Bristol Sauna Yard is best for a relaxed, informal date, it occupies a courtyard just off Church Road in Redfield.

It’s a family-run Finnish-style sauna and ice-bath space with multiple wood-fired saunas, an outdoor shower and cold plunge. Intentionally simple rather than polished and spa-like.

There’s no need to dress up, ditch the phone and plenty of time to catch up.

You can also privately book the smaller horsebox sauna, which is worth considering if you’re planning something more intimate than a communal session.

Unfold Sauna Club, Backwell

Unfold Sauna Club is best for a little escape, without really leaving Bristol.

Ten minutes outside the city at Five Acre Farm in Backwell, Unfold has the sort of setting that immediately makes an ordinary afternoon feel like you’ve gone somewhere.

The main experience combines a wood-fired sauna with filtered ice baths, a standard hour-long session currently costs £12.50 per person.

Unfold also runs yoga, breathwork, fitness sessions, a sauna run club and community events, so there are some genuinely fun ways of turning it into more than a straightforward sauna visit.

For couples who enjoy doing things together rather than sitting across a table making conversation for two hours, this is a particularly good one.

Book the yoga and sauna experience, or weekend sauna session followed by lunch somewhere in North Somerset.

Sensate Spa & Studios, Stoke Bishop

Sensate Spa and Studios is the most private option.

Rather than a stripped-back community sauna, Sensate is a cute outdoor garden spa tucked away where a session includes a sauna, hot tub and cold plunge, alongside herbal teas and some refreshments. Sessions are capped at six guests, which keeps things considerably more intimate than many communal sauna experiences.

A standard Spa Escape is a little more expensive at around £35 for 1 hour 45 minutes but feels like more of a relaxation session, and you can book all six places if you want guaranteed exclusive use.

Head next door to Little Shop and Pantry to treat yourself to the best pastries in the area.

Bristol Wild Sauna, Fishponds

Bristol Wild Sauna is tucked away at Filwood House in Fishponds and manages to create a little outdoor escape in a fairly unexpected urban location.

The handcrafted sauna is paired with two filtered cold plunge pools, cold showers, changing rooms, lockers and filtered drinking water. Sessions last 75 minutes and are kept to a maximum of nine people.

That smaller group size is a nice middle ground for a date: sociable enough that it doesn’t feel overly intense, but not so busy that you spend the whole session separated from each other.

It’s also open across most of the week, including evenings, which makes it one of the easier choices for an after-work date.

Stone & Steam Community Sauna, Hartcliffe City Farm

Stone & Steam Community Sauna is on another of Bristol’s city farms.

Stone & Steam is hidden in a woodland glade behind the farm’s animal pens and centres around a wood-fired sauna, cold plunge, outdoor showers, changing areas and a woodland space for relaxing between rounds.

The woodland setting gives it considerably more atmosphere than its city location might suggest. There’s even a fire pit and café on site.

Current bookable sauna-and-plunge sessions are listed at around £12 per person, making this one of the more affordable dates on the list too.

Choose a weekend session, explore the farm and surrounding green space, then stop somewhere for a late lunch on the way home.
