The Hare On The Hill, Kingsdown
Probably one of Bristol’s best proper neighbourhood date pubs. The Hare On The Hill is small, cosy and relaxed, with great beer and lots of little corners to settle into. It regularly gets singled out for its cosy atmosphere.
Date vibe: Quiet pints & long chats
The Ostrich, Harbourside
The Ostrich wins on location. Grab a drink and sit outside overlooking the water, then wander around the harbour afterwards. Particularly good for a sunny afternoon date; it’s also currently open seven days a week.
Date vibe: Harbourside pints & sunset wandering
The Christmas Steps, Christmas Steps
Low lighting, wonky little rooms, historic surroundings and plenty of character make The Christmas Steps a great date spot. It dates back centuries and has local craft beer, ales, wine and a free Crack Magazine jukebox.
Date vibe: Cosy, candlelit-ish Bristol romance
The Cadbury, Montpelier
The Cadbury is a brilliant choice when you want the date to feel casual rather than DATE NIGHT. It’s tucked into Montpelier and gets recommended locally for its chilled, quieter atmosphere.
Date vibe: Neighbourhood pub & Sunday-afternoon energy
The Albion, Clifton Village
The Albion is hidden down a side street in Clifton Village, with a proper cosy pub feel and a roaring fire when it's cold. Pair it with a wander around Clifton or the Suspension Bridge and you’ve basically planned the whole date.
Date vibe: Clifton stroll + cosy pub
The Gallimaufry, Gloucester Road
The Gallimaufry is a little more lively than some of the others, but that's part of the appeal. Rustic interiors, food, drinks and regular live music make it particularly good when you want something to actually happen on the date, or you've run out of things to talk about..
Date vibe: Live music, drinks and G. Road at your fingertips
The Lion, Hotwells
The Lion is a smaller Hotwells neighbourhood pub that feels nicely removed from the busier city-centre spots. A good one for a low-key drink before or after wandering around Clifton and the harbour.
Date vibe: Hidden neighbourhood gem
The Old Bookshop, North Street
The Old Bookshop is a very good Bedminster date option. Quirky interiors, a carefully chosen drinks list and rotating food residencies give you much more to talk about than your average pub.
Date vibe: Quirky, casual & North Street cool
The Barley Mow, St Philip's
The Barley Mow is tiny, cosy and brilliant if you're both into beer. It's run by Bristol Beer Factory and Visit Bristol highlights its big selection of keg and cask beers, including plenty from local breweries.
Date vibe: Craft beer & cosy corners
The Highbury Vaults, Kingsdown
The Highbury Vaults is a Bristol institution and a great old-school date pub. Think wood panelling, cosy corners, board games, bar billiards, a heated garden and even a little train running around the pub.
Date vibe: Old-school pub + board games
