The Lock Up, Church Road, St George

Probably the best all-rounder for a Sunday roast date. The Lock Up is relaxed and has a great neighbourhood feel, expect a seriously good roast, great cocktails and a chilled easy atmosphere that makes it just as good for an early days date as it is for your hundredth Sunday together.

The Kensington Arms, Redland

The Kensington Arms is loved by locals and visitors, it makes Sunday lunch feel a little bit special but with the atmosphere of a really great cosy pub. It has a real focus on locally sourced ingredients and food that's worth travelling across Bristol for alongside some lovely wines and ales, service is great and it doesn't feel like they need your table back despite it being so popular, take your time over that sticky toffee and head to the bar after to extend your afternoon.

The Christmas Steps, City Centre

We've already got The Christmas Steps on our pub date radar for pretty much every other occasion, but it absolutely deserves another appearance here. It's tiny, wonky, historic and super cosy, basically everything you want from a rainy Bristol day, of which we know there are plenty. Low lighting and hidden corners means you can escape the world for a few hours.

The Star & Dove, Totterdown

If you want a Sunday that involves really good food, a lovely bottle of wine and discovering somewhere that feels a little under the radar, The Star & Dove is a good shout. This Totterdown pub offers a great roast in an intimate and cosy environment, post roast try and grab a spot next to the open fire settle in for the afternoon.

The Grace, Gloucester Road

The Grace is a great option for a laid-back Sunday date with a relaxed, independent neighbourhood pub feel, rather than being a formal gastropub, which makes it perfect for a casual roast and a good catch-up. There's a lovely garden if the weather is behaving. The best part is the location so you can spend the afternoon on Gloucester Road bopping into a few independent shops, browse for records or books and inevitably end up in another pub.

The Farm, St Werburghs

Pick The Farm when you want a Sunday date that's super relaxed, a little quirky and very Bristol. Tucked away in St Werburghs, it's full of character, with a big beer garden, a community feel and the sort of atmosphere where nobody's in any hurry to leave. Come for a hearty Sunday lunch, stay for another pint and, if the sun's out, make the most of the garden and the local farm.

The Bank Tavern, City Centre

The pub of folklore. The Bank Tavern has become almost mythical thanks to its award-winning lunches and the frankly insane competition to get a table. The pub itself is small, traditional and tucked away in the city centre, and its roasts have earned a reputation that keeps people booking well in advance. We've got absolutely no idea whether it's worth it because, well, we're not that patient. But if you fancy planning a romantic Sunday lunch for approximately 2030 we've heard it's decent.

Cow & Sow, Queen Square

If you're after a Sunday roast date that feels a bit more like a proper restaurant date than a trip down the local boozer, Cow & Sow is your place. It's a little more polished, a little more expensive and exactly the sort of place to go when you fancy dressing up slightly and treating yourselves. It's indulgent and meat heavy so perfect for something a little fancy followed by romantic waddle around the Harbourside.

BANK, Totterdown

If you're the kind of couple who plan their weekends around where they're going to eat, BANK needs to be on the list. An independent neighbourhood restaurant in Totterdown which adds a bit of zhuzh to the humble roast. Locally sourced ingredients, seasonal veg and plenty of rich flavour thanks to its open-fire cooking. It's a little more of a foodie date than your traditional pub roast, but still feels relaxed and welcoming rather than fancy or formal so definitely worth booking a visit.
