7 Pottery Date Spots in Bristol

Forget the usual dinner and drinks routine. If you're searching for a date in Bristol that's a little different, swap the pub for pottery.

Here are some of our top pottery spots to take a look at...

Terra Café

If your ideal low key date involves good coffee, cake and getting a little creative, Terra Café in Stokes Croft is a great place to start.

This welcoming pottery café is a great little spot to spend a few hours. You can book self led hand-building, wheel-throwing tasters, evening BYOB pottery sessions and glazing experiences among other one off events to book all year round.

Where to find it - 4a Ashley Road, Stokes Croft, BS6 5NL

Clay Shed

Always fancied re-enacting that Ghost moment and trying the pottery wheel together? Clay Shed is a great option (minus the movie romance) for couples who want to try something new.

Join Alice and the team at a beginner friendly throwing workshop to take you through the basics of centring clay and forming bowls and cylinders. A really fun morning of getting messy and laughing at each others skills, with the satisfaction of making something from scratch to take home at the end.

Beginner throwing tasters, six-week pottery courses and specialist workshops can all be found on their website.

Where to find it - Unit 6, Lawrence Hill Industrial Estate, Russell Town Ave, Redfield, BS5 9LT

Zed Alley Clayhouse

Hidden around Bristol's classically picturesque Christmas Steps Arts Quarter, Zed Alley Clayhouse is an especially lovely choice for a creative date.

The location alone makes it feel special. Spend an afternoon learning something new together before wandering through the independent shops and cafés nearby.

The studio offers small-group pottery lessons and specialise in wheel-throwing tasters, one day hand-building workshops making mugs and bowls to two day throwing courses and longer beginner courses if you want to explore it longer terms! All found on their website.

Where to find it - 1 Host Street, Christmas Steps, BS1 5BU

Pottymouth Workshop

If you want a pottery date that doesn't take itself too seriously, Pottymouth should be high on your list.

Founded by ceramicists Naomi Stokes and Meredith Mason, it began with pop-up pottery sessions in Bristol pubs and has grown into a creative workshop business with a base at Windmill Hill City Farm.

It offers hand-building workshops, themed ceramics experiences, pottery clubs and workshops at different locations around Bristol so well worth a follow on Instagram to see where they are popping up next.

Where to find it - Windmill Hill City Farm, BS3 4EA

Finnerty Ceramics

If you're looking for an intimate pottery date that feels a little more personal, Finnerty Ceramics in St George is a lovely hidden gem with workshops limited to just four people.

This independent studio founded by Rebecca is part pottery school, part gallery and creative events space and celebrates beautiful handmade craftsmanship.

Whether you're trying the pottery wheel for the first time, making colourful ceramic jewellery or getting stuck into a mindful clay workshop, it's a lovely way to spend some quality time together.

There's tonnes to book. Beginner wheel-throwing tasters, six-week pottery courses, seasonal hand-building classes, ceramic jewellery workshops and guest artist events. Book quickly as they sell out fast!

Where to find it - 294 Church Road, St George, Bristol, BS5 8AH

Mudworks Pottery

If you fancy swapping the pub for something hands-on, Mudworks is a great alternative for date night.

This artist led pottery studio in Windmill Hill is lovely informal space offering hand-building workshops, colourful mug-making, wheel-throwing tasters, longer pottery courses and specialist ceramics sessions. We've got a very lovely home made butter dish to prove it...

Upcoming events can be found on their website so keep your eyes peeled.
