The weekend

A wholesome springtime weekend in the Welsh hills — three days to slow right down, do the things you never make time for, and properly be together.

Ty Sinsir — your house for the weekend

A seventeenth-century house, yours alone

Ty Sinsir is a stone farmhouse tucked into the folds of the Brecon Beacons — thick walls, worn flagstones, wood burners in every room and a hot tub out the back under the stars. For one weekend it belongs to you and a handful of other Nook couples, and no one else. Light the fire, claim a sofa, and let the week fall away.

The snug, where the fire's always lit
Breakfast in bed, no rush to get up

Wild hills, right outside the door

You're deep in the Bannau Brycheiniog, the Black Mountains rising behind the house and the ruins of Tretower Castle a short wander across the fields. Mornings are for slow walks by the River Wye, afternoons for a cycle through the valley — or simply a book and the view. It's the kind of quiet you feel in your shoulders.

Wake to the Black Mountains in the window, and nowhere you have to be.

The long oak table, set for dinner

Long dinners, cooked for you

A chef cooks for the whole house all weekend — proper, unhurried food eaten together at the big oak table by candlelight. Everything is fresh and seasonal: spring greens, just-baked bread, local lamb, something slow in the oven while the fire crackles. You won't lift a finger, unless it's to pour the wine.

Everything seasonal, most of it from down the road — and someone else doing the washing up.
